Alt du skal vide om en Oeko-Tex® certificering

Everything you need to know about an Oeko-Tex® certification

When you shop at Danefæ, you may notice that many of our products have Oeko-Tex® certification. But what exactly does an Oeko-Tex® certification entail? And what does that mean for you as a buyer? Read along here and learn everything about Oeko-Tex® and the benefits of buying clothes with an Oeko-Tex® certification.

What is an Oeko-Tex® certification?

Oeko-Tex® is, in short, the world's leading organization for health and environmental labeling of textiles. When a product has an Oeko-Tex® certification, it means that the product has been tested for harmful substances and is approved according to a number of different health and environmental parameters. Oeko-Tex® has 18 different test institutes in Europe and Japan, which test and certify products. In Denmark, the Technological Institute is responsible for issuing certifications both nationally and to companies in Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine.

The institutes associated with Oeko-Tex® have the option of issuing a number of different certifications, depending on the product in question. These certifications include, among others:

Standard 100

Standard 100

Standard 100 is probably the most well-known certification and labeling scheme for textiles worldwide. When a product carries the Standard 100 label, it means that all parts of the product have been tested for harmful substances. This means that everything from zippers and buttons to sewing thread and fabric has been tested and deemed safe for both the environment and the health of consumers. These tests are carried out by independent Oeko-Tex® institutes on the basis of a very comprehensive criteria catalogue, which is updated at least once a year to include the very latest scientific findings. According to Oeko-Tex®, the criteria catalog is, in many cases, more comprehensive than both Danish and European legislation regarding harmful substances in textiles.

Made in Green

Made In Green

Made In Green is a traceable label for textiles and leather products which do not contain harmful substances and which are produced under safe and sustainable conditions. Products with a Made In Green label have a unique product ID which gives access to information about production such as production country and production facilities.

Leather Standard

Leather Standard

Leather Standard is an international labeling and certification system for leather articles and products that have been tested and approved according to Oeko-Tex®'s criteria catalogue. Leather goods with this certification can be anything from clothing to accessories.

What does Oeko-Tex® certification mean to you?

When you buy products with an Oeko-Tex® certification, it means several things for you as a consumer. First of all, this means that you are helping to support the producers and retailers who are committed to ensuring that their products are sustainably produced and sound in terms of health.

It also means that you are buying a high-quality product that does not contain substances that could potentially harm the environment and your health. An Oeko-Tex® certification is especially important when you buy baby and children's clothes, as children often suck on clothes and have clothes in their mouths, which is why it is particularly important that the clothes do not contain harmful substances.
